There was a time you told me so, I was your man, high or low
Those We Leave Behind Part 3
Dawn broke above the prairie, its golden light bathing the softly swaying grasses with a sleepy glow. Birds chirped merrily to greet it and a lone hawk soared overhead, its keen graze sweeping the landscape below, eagerly searching for a field mouse or gopher with which to break its fast.
Ride Me
Ride me lovely, I wish to see, Your charms bounce, To hear you scream
The Resolution
Just after dawn, a woman in jogging attire left her suburban home and made her steady way down the leaf-dusted sidewalk of her neighborhood towards the distant sounds of heavy traffic that would lead her into the city proper. Though the sky was grey, and the scent of rain hung heavy in the air, she was undeterred. She did this every morning, it kept her sane, and she wasn’t about to let a little rain dissuade her. In any case, she had business in the city that day that she was duty-bound to see through. Her name was Mindy and by the decree of a New Year's resolution she had made whilst curled on the couch sipping champagne while her two children slept beside her, watching the ball drop through a half-tipsy haze, she would not spend another year wallowing in single self-pity. No, that year she would throw caution to the wind, grab fate by the balls, slap cupid in his stupid cherub face, or at the very least go on a couple dates. Such was her calling that autumn morn, many months since her resolution had been made. She had a date.
Chill Wind’s Warning
Have you heard the cold winds blow? From distant lands, dusted with snow
On Bended Knee
There was a time, I could have flown, Without your aid, I had not known
The Golden Spool
Where the green grasses grow, On hillsides, bereft of fresh snow
The Maiden
Sun-kissed child, Dressed all in smiles
Those We Leave Behind Part 2
Sometime later Joshua sat, his back against a sturdy pine, a lively fire crackling before him. His gaze vacant, he stared into the flames, his mind, finally calmed, going over and over the events that had led him to that spot.
Those We Leave Behind Part 1
Boots crunching on errant rocks upon a mountain pass, the sky bleeding a glorious, russet sunset above, a disheveled man stumbled his way towards a distant copse of pines. Behind him spread a seemingly endless prairie that had been his home for the entirety of his life, a life he must now leave behind, a home he could never see again. The name Campbell, his families name, would forever be soiled upon the plains now thanks to a short-fused reaction to an insult given. If only that cowpoke hadn’t pulled his gun. If only he hadn’t had a shot too many of whiskey much too strong. To dream was for naught however, and now the man, Joshua by name, was on the run.
